โ๐ค On this day in 1836, Texas got its first elected president! Sam Houston, hero of San Jacinto, was sworn in at Columbia on Oct 22 after crushing Stephen F. Austin in the vote. The inauguration was set for December, but interim President Burnet resigned early, leaving Houston about two hours to prep his speech. He even gave up his San Jacinto sword! โ๏ธ #History #Texas #OnThisDay
